Oscar.jpgFamily (or Small Group) Bird Handling Experience

Introducing our brand new Family Bird Handling Experience! We are pleased to offer this 30-minute session for families, couples or small groups to experience the thrill of flying birds of prey and owls together. For just £50 for up to 4 people (you can add an extra person for £10 for a current maximum group of 5), you and your family/group will fly at least three birds which will include a kestrel, an owl, and a hawk or buzzard. You will start by meeting one of our friendly falconers who will provide you with a glove to wear, and will explain how the birds will fly and land. You will learn all about these amazing birds in a relaxed and enjoyable way as they fly from person to person. We do not book anyone else on with you; this is a private experience just for you and your group.

This experience is suitable for adults and children aged 8+. We are not currently selling gift vouchers for this experience but we are taking bookings for specified dates. We recommend you arrive at least 30 minutes before the start time so you will have time to look around our visitor centre.

We are currently not offering vouchers for this experience and just booking dates at the time of purchase. Generally this experience starts at 4pm but occasionally we can offer a different start time. If you wish to book a date please contact us on 01562 700014 to check our availability.

Frequently Asked Questions...

What happens if we cannot attend the slot we have booked, e.g. due to self-isolation or illness?
If you are unable to attend, particularly if you have developed a cough, fever, and/or shortness of breath, please contact us as soon as possible and we will be happy to rearrange your experience for an alternative date, subject to our availability. If cancelling on the day of your experience, we ask that you contact us before 10am as we may be able to offer your time slot to another family on our waiting list.
Please telephone us on 01562 700014 if you need to notify us of a cancellation and to discuss your options. Failure to notify us of a cancellation in time may result in us being unable to offer you an alternative date and/or any discretionary refund, where applicable.

I have paid online, how long does it take to receive the booking confirmation?

We will email the booking confirmation to you within 2 days of the payment.

Can I bring more than 5 people?

Under normal circumstances we would say yes, but unfortunately, due to current social distancing regulations we are only permitted to have groups of up 6 outdoors and this includes the member of staff who will be running your experience. The experience is therefore temporarily limited to a maximum of 5 participants. £50 includes up to 4 people, an additional participant can be added for £10 up to the current maximum of 5.

Is this Experience suitable for wheelchair users or people with limited mobility?

Yes, the Family Experience is suitable for wheelchair users and those with limited mobility. To ensure you get the most enjoyment out of your experience, please let us know when booking if you will be using a wheelchair or if you will require seating in the arena. If you are not certain that this Experience is suitable for you or your intended recipient, please telephone us on 01562 700014 and we will be happy to assist you.

Can we take photographs?

Participants on our bird handling experiences are welcome to bring their own camera/ video cameras to take photographs during their time with us. Flash is also not a problem for the birds.

Can other people come and take photographs?

From time to time participants ask if relatives or friends may also attend just to take photographs of them with the birds. The normal admission charge will apply to anyone not participating in the experience. Anyone not participating will not be permitted to enter the flying arena, but will still be able to watch the experience take place.

What happens if the weather is bad on the date of my experience?

We will run the experiences in most weather conditions, but we also want you to enjoy your experience. If the weather is predicted to be bad before your booked date, you can contact us to see if we have any alternative dates available.

Can children under 8 take part in the Family Bird Handling Experience?

Due to the size and weight of some of the birds that will be flying, this experience is not suitable for children aged under 8. If you wish to bring younger children with you, you are welcome to do so but they must remain outside the flying arena and be supervised by an adult at all times. They will still be able to look around the aviaries and watch the experience from outside the arena.

Can we hold and/or stroke the birds?
You will be given a gauntlet (glove) to wear on your left hand, which the birds will be landing on, allowing you to hold them. However, we do not allow or encourage anyone to stroke our birds as it is not good for their feathers and they do not enjoy it.
What happens if I have to cancel and cannot book another date?
Bookings are transferable - you can gift your session to someone else if you are unable to come or re-book. Alternatively, you can use the money you have already paid as a discount off one of our Bird Handling Experiences, please click here for details about the various experiences we offer.
In exceptional circumstances, we may consider offering you a partial refund (minus our administrative fees and transaction charges we have paid), but this will be at our discretion. Please contact us on 01562 700014 if you need to notify us of a cancellation and/or to discuss your options.
